Victor Cruz on a two-day visit with the Bears

According to Art Stapleton, Victor Cruz’s free agent visit with the Bears continued on Tuesday. Cruz also met with the Bears on Monday at Halas Hall.

Cruz, 31, appeared in 15 games last season with the New York Giants, totaling 586 yards and only one touchdown. Before last season, Cruz suffered a torn patellar tendon in 2014 and aggravated his calf in the summer of 2015, later requiring usury and missing the entire 2015 season.

Before Cruz suffered those injuries, he was a primary target for Eli Manning in New York. Cruz is known for his “salsa dance” touchdown celebration in which he had 23 TDs in his first three seasons (now just two in the past three years). It is evident that Cruz age and injuries may have slowed him down, but does he bring any value to the Chicago Bears? The answer: yes.

If Cruz is able to pass his physical and check out to be in shape and healthy, the Bears may bring him on. Cruz is an established veteran and the wide receiver position is not very strong in Chicago.

His numbers were not good last year, but the Giants had Odell Beckham Jr. and Sterling Shepard taking most of the offensive snaps. A fresh start for Cruz could revive his career, whether it’s in Chicago or not.

While I think Cruz would have to fight for a roster spot, giving him a chance may prove to be very beneficial. If he proves to be healthy and has a good camp, he would give Mike Glennon another target. Because on paper, the Bears wide receiver group does not stand out at you. And putting Cruz in the mix could make it look just a little better.
